A:  An estimated 40% of men are prone to suffer some degree of Gynecomastia. The incidence is even greater in men who consume excessive amounts of alcohol, smoke marijuana, use anabolic steroids, or are obese. In most cases however, the actual cause for gynecomastia is unknown.

A: Due to the greater vascularity of the facial skin in the beard area in men, there is a somewhat greater risk of bleeding (hematoma) after undergoing a Facelift. However, this can be minimized by meticulous surgical hemostasis, careful control of blood pressure both during and after the procedure, and the avoidance of aspirin and other medications which can increase the risk of bleeding.

A: For those with a great deal of laxity in the face or neck area, the beard may be pulled back toward the sideburn area. In some cases, patients find that they need to shave behind the ears or further back toward the nape of the neck. However, these can be minimized by alternative incision placements.

A: Men need to be extra cautious when shaving to avoid nicks and cuts due to the transient numbness that they may experience in the cheek area after undergoing a facelift.

A: An ideal candidate for hair transplant surgery are those who have experienced permanent hair loss. This includes those with male pattern baldness, women with thinning hair (female pattern thinning), those with areas of scarring from injuries or hair loss after undergoing facelift procedures, and those who simply want to thicken or restore beards, eyebrows, or eyelashes.
