Liposuction for Men
An ideal male body shape is usually athletic looking and trim with broad shoulders and chest, a narrow hip and thigh area and a flat abdomen. As men age, however, areas of fat tend to accumulate around along the chin and neck, the abdomen, the flanks (the so-called “love handles”), and the breast area (a condition also called Gynecomastia). Men usually seek Liposuction to help get rid of these fatty areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Because men retain their skin elasticity a while longer than women, the areas of fat beneath their skin tends to be firmer and more vascular. Due to these and other factor, liposuction in men is usually very effective. However, there may be greater associated swelling, blood loss, and bruising during the post-operative stages.
While liposuction is often the most effective for males with gynecomastia, in some cases, an open surgical excision may also be performed for gynecomastia patients whose breast enlargement is mostly made up of glandular tissue instead of fat.
For men with hanging abdominal skin (which is usually the result of frequent cycles of weight gain followed by weight loss), loose abdominal muscles, and/or neglected hernias, a full Abdominoplasty or “Tummy Tuck” is the usual option. Abdominoplasty is a major surgical procedure which involves the removal of excess fat, tightening of the muscles of the abdominal wall, and trimming the waistline. A Lower Body Lift may be required for more extensive cases which involves excess skin and fat around the entire circumference of the waistline.
