Welcome to the Philippines! Mabuhay!
Located in Southeastern
Asia between the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea,
the Philippines is known as the
Pearl of the Orient.
Divided into three major islands, (Luzon, Visayas,
and Mindanao), the Philippine archipelago is
made up of 7,107 islands. Considered one of the
travel world’s best-kept secrets, the Philippines is
well known for its world class beaches, dramatic
water and land formations, and indigenous natural
wonders.
With a population of about 84,619,000, the
Philippines is one of the few English speaking Asian
countries. Some even say that the real natural
wonder of the Philippines is its outgoing and
tourist-friendly people.
The Philippines truly is a spectacular tourist
destination. Not only is it rich in culture and
history, unspoiled tropical islands, and an
extraordinarily diverse wildlife, it also caters to
the more “worldly” traveler through its exciting
night life, world-class shopping, and various
recreational sporting activities, whether on land or
water.
Must-See Attractions
Here are highly recommended places and activities
for those who want to experience the
different flavors of the country.
While the Philippines is best known for its
beautiful beaches and rich culture, the first stop
for any tourist would have to be Metro Manila.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is
where international tourists arrive in the country,
making it the first stop before heading out to
explore any of the numeroUus islands that make up the
Philippines.
Depending on your interests and the time of day, you
can always find something to do in Metro Manila Daytime activities may
include either visiting any of the country’s
world-class malls nearest you for some shopping or
sampling some of the local cuisines. For those who
are more interested in cultural pursuits, visiting
museums and many of the historical monuments in
Manila and Makati are ideal.
If you’re pressed for time and cannot afford to
travel too far from Metro Manila, the Subic Bay
Leisure Zone and the Clark Special Economic
Zone are places you can check out. Once U.S.
Navy and Air Force Base facilities, these are now
among Asia’s emerging tourist destinations. The
Subic Bay Leisure Zone boasts of its 37,000 acre
virgin triple-canopy rainforest with wildlife and
rare marine life. The Clark Special Zone Economic
Zone is known for its Fontana and Mimosa Leisure
Parks, duty free shops and excellent golf courses.
Another popular local and tourist destination is
Baguio City. With its topography of towering
peaks, plateaus, and intermittent patches of
valleys, the region enjoys a cool climate all year
round. Aside from enjoying the local scenery and
sampling the various local cuisines, hiking and
spelunking also fall into the more popular
activities while in the area.
Those looking for the ultimate local paradise
experience have several destinations to choose from:
Located north of Malaysia’s Sabah island and south
of Mindoro, the island of Palawan is also
known as the country’s last frontier. Aside from its
world-class beaches and resorts, it has managed to
preserve its natural habitat throughout the years,
making it an ideal breeding ground for tropical
wildlife.
Metropolitan Cebu is the country’s second
biggest metropolis. Its collection of pristine
beaches and luxurious resorts is every traveler’s
tropical island dream come true. East of Cebu is the
island of Bohol. Not only is it home to the
world famous Chocolate Hills and the worlds smallest
primate, the tarsier, it also holds its share of
beautiful serene beaches that are still untouched by
commercial establishments.
In the southern part of the Philippine archipelago
is the city of Davao, home of the country’s
highest peak, Mt. Apo and the national bird, the
majestic Philippine Eagle. A natural haven for both
tranquil and daring pursuits, Davao’s dazzling
topography of picturesque landscapes makes it an
anchor tourist destination.

experience, the Philippines is the country to visit.

Surfing in the Philippines
For most people, the Philippines is not the country
that would give one the impression of being any sort
of surfing destination. But with the Pacific Ocean
bordering the eastern coastline and the South China
sea on the western coastline attracting more
typhoons than most of its neighboring countries, the
Philippines is is slowly becoming an untapped
surfer’s haven.
The Philippines, however, is not a new surfing
destination. Surfers from all over the world have
been enjoying the waves here way back to the
sixties. But it’s only recently that Philippine
Tourism has owned up to being a surfing destination.
Below are some of the most popular surfing
destinations:
-
Siargao Island
-
La Union Province
-
Zambales Province
-
Samar Island
-
Baler, Aurora Province
