Skin needling
using a steel rolling
device with acupuncture needles
(Dermroller)
is
a dermatologic technique used to improve texture of the
skin. It is designed for correcting depressed scars and
treating ageing skin
particularly on the
face.
Skin needling with
the skin roller produces hundreds of micropunctures in the
skin creating dermal injuries. Each dermal injury triggers
the normal healing response within the skin and successive
treatments build new collagen progressively filling in
depressed scars and lines. The procedure also induces
formation of new collagen , whichcan continue for up to 12
months after the injury occurs. Tissue remodeling results in
tighter, smoother skin with natural colour.
How is the
procedure done?
Topical local
anesthesia is applied to the skin and left on for about 30
minutes. After sterilization procedures, the rolling devised
is passed on the surface of the skin. After series of
rolling, topical medicines to hasten wound healing is
applied . The whole procedure lasts for about 1 hour. The
downtime is only about 3 – 5 days wherein the skin is
noticeably pinkish and peeling . After about 5 days of
peeling, the kin surface is smoother and lighter in colour.
Skin tightening and remodeling of the scars are usually
evident after 2-3 weeks.
The procedure may
be repeated every 2-4 weeks for about 5 to 6 sessions until
the desired result is achieved.
